On December 30th, 2021, I fell on the pickleball court on the second day of my cruise. I was taken to the ship’s hospital, where the doctor determined I had a compression fracture of the hip. I handed my EA+ card to the ship’s doctor, and they determined I needed to be disembarked at the next port. I remained in the ship’s hospital until January 1, 2022.
When we arrived in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, EA+ arranged for me to be taken immediately off the ship and transferred by ambulance to the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital in Tortola. Before I left the ship, I was given a Covid test which proved to be negative. When I got to the hospital in Tortola, they also took a Covid test – which was positive. After waiting all day in the emergency room in Tortola, they put me in the Covid ward. After two days in the Covid ward, I tested negative for Covid, proving that my previous Covid test was a false positive.
I was initially delayed leaving Tortola because of Covid, and many hospitals in Florida refused my admittance because of Covid. My boyfriend Tom was also with me on the cruise, and he had to disembark as well. EA+ paid for a hotel room for him in Tortola.
EA+ worked around the clock to get me into a facility and I remained bedridden with a broken hip at the hospital in Tortola. We got the word from EA+ that on January 8th I would be moved to Martin Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida! Oh, the relief we felt!
I was picked up by a Lear Jet with two pilots and an ER nurse and a paramedic and I was monitored the entire way back to the States. The two pilots, the ER nurse, and the paramedic all accompanied me to the hospital. I was operated on early the next morning, and I had to have a second operation two months later.
When I left the ship in Tortola, that was the last time I saw my boyfriend, Tom, until after my surgery on the ninth. Because of Covid, he was never allowed into the hospital. But EA+ took care of him too.
EA+ provided me with my entire transportation by Learjet to Martin Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. EA+ also covered my boyfriend’s airplane trip from Tortola to Fort Lauderdale to pick up our car. In addition, EA+ covered my boyfriend’s hotel bills while he was in Tortola. EA+ was absolutely amazing. I never dreamed I would be in a position where I could not get myself home from a trip. Had it not been for EA+, I don’t know what I would have done. I was so grateful for the continual updates provided by EA+. Everyone was so wonderful. I never received a bill from EA+, everything was just handled. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
