My neighbor has 4 season Reds tickets in the Club area, and he takes the three of us with him for one series each year, usually driving from St Mary’s (700 miles). We were going to a day game versus the Pirates and going to lunch at the Stadium Club. I was walking down four steep concrete stairs. I somehow missed the last step and fell on my back with my feet/leg up against a wall. My right leg below the knee was at a 45-degree angle from the rest of my leg. I tore all the right leg quad tendons, tore my right arm bicep tendon, and had an intermediate right quad strain.
My friends used my EA+ card at the hospital ER to call EA+ to notify them of the injury. At first my wife, who was a lifelong nurse, wanted me to come home for the surgery, but I had a visit from the Cincinnati Bengals Orthopedic surgeon, and he offered to do the surgery the next day there in Cincinnati. He talked with my wife, and she agreed to have it done there so notified EA+ that I was going to do surgery and go to rehab in Cincinnati. The surgeon did the surgery the next day.
The surgery went well and a day later I was transferred to a rehab hospital where I was taught how to walk and take care of myself. I was also in constant contact with EA+ so when I was released, they could get me home. They worked with the hospital to keep up with my condition and sent the transfer paperwork. I was finally ready for release and two days before that, EA+ sent a male nurse to coordinate the release and setup the transfer back to St Mary’s. He picked me up in a limo at the hospital and took me to the Cincinnati airport where we had first class seats on Delta Airlines to Atlanta and then on to Jacksonville. The nurse took me home, got me in the house (which was no small trick!) and after inside, did all my vitals to make sure I was in good shape. He did a great job. And it did not cost me one cent more.
